The Chris Stuart Bursary offers an incredible opportunity for students embarking on their undergraduate studies.

In September 2023 we were deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague Chris Stuart following a short illness. As Head of Audit & Assurance at BDO in Jersey, Chris was a respected leader, inspiring mentor, and advocate for the accountancy profession. He was dedicated to developing talent and ensuring that those around him aspired to be the best they could be. The establishment of The Chris Stuart Bursary will ensure his legacy lives on, inspiring future generations of accountants.

The Chris Stuart Bursary offers an incredible opportunity for students embarking on their undergraduate studies. With a total of £15,000 available over 3 years, this bursary can help you focus on your education and career development.  Applications are welcome from individuals studying any subject but must be able to demonstrate a clear intention to pursue an accountancy career upon graduation.



Bursary Benefits: Financial Aid and Professional Experience

Our Bursary provides support of £5,000 each year, payable in three termly instalments for a total of three years of study. We will also provide our bursary recipient with up to 6 weeks paid work experience at BDO Jersey every year of the bursary. Applicants should have predicted A-level grades of three C’s or above and GCSE Maths and English at grade 5 and above, or an equivalent qualification.

The application deadline is 31 January each year. Applications received after this date will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. Interviews will take place in February or March, with the successful applicant being notified shortly thereafter



Terms and Conditions
  1. Award Details: The Chris Stuart Bursary offers £5,000 each year, paid in three equal instalments over the academic year, for a total of three years.
  2. Eligibility: This bursary is for Jersey students who plan to pursue a degree in any subject at a recognised UK university. Recipients should demonstrate a clear intention to pursue a career in accountancy after graduation. They should hold Entitled or Entitled to Work status.
  3. Selection Process: A selection panel will choose the bursary recipient. The chosen candidate will be notified by our People team, and all applicants will be informed about the outcome of their application.
  4. Academic Performance: The bursary is dependent on achieving successful exam results. 
  5. Deferral: If a recipient wishes to defer their university start date, they must inform BDO. BDO will decide if the bursary can be deferred to a later year.
  6. Ongoing Confirmation: Recipients must confirm successful completion of each academic year. If a student fails a course, BDO may reconsider continued funding.
  7. Early Termination: If a bursary recipient leaves university before completing their degree, they must notify BDO immediately, and the bursary will be terminated. 
  8. Confidentiality: All application information will be kept confidential and handled according to our privacy policy on personal data retention.
