Inspiring Future Cybersecurity Talent

At BDO Jersey, we are committed to inspiring the next generation of digital and cyber security professionals.

As part of this commitment, we are proud to sponsor a week of interactive cyber security workshops for local students, delivered by the Smallpeice Trust in partnership with Skills Jersey.

Taking place from 24–28 March 2025, the workshops will give up to 600 students across Jersey aged 13 to 14 the chance to develop key cyber security skills. Working in teams, students will take on a series of cyber puzzles using open-source intelligence, testing their ability to crack sophisticated cyphers and break into a fictitious research database. Throughout the week, they will be supported by cyber specialists from BDO Jersey, who will provide guidance and insights into real-world cyber security challenges.

Dave Roworth from Skills Jersey said: “The aim of this week-long programme of workshops is to expose students at an early age to the challenges faced by cyber security specialists, and to promote opportunities available to pursue careers in this area. We know the next generation of cyber warriors will come from our schools, so it is important to show just what opportunities there are in these vital careers.”

“I’m delighted that we will have specialists from a range of digital areas joining the workshops to support students as they are put through their paces. This exposes them to some of our leading role models from the cyber world of work in Jersey.”

Inspiring the next generation in STEM

The Smallpeice Trust is a leading educational charity that encourages young people to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Their workshops are designed to equip students with critical problem-solving skills and introduce them to the wide range of career opportunities in cyber security and digital risk management.

Oliver Farber, Director - Strategic Insight & Risk Management at BDO, said: "STEM subjects play a crucial role in shaping the future of technology and innovation. At BDO Jersey, we want to inspire the next generation to explore careers in cyber security and digital risk management and technology. These workshops provide a fantastic opportunity for students to develop problem-solving skills and gain real-world insights into the evolving digital landscape."

Building Cyber Resilience in Jersey

Supporting initiatives like this is part of our wider mission to build cyber resilience within Jersey’s business community and beyond. By engaging with students at an early stage, we can help develop the skills and awareness needed to protect digital assets and navigate an increasingly complex cyber landscape.

At BDO Jersey, we believe in nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and helping to shape the future of digital security. We look forward to seeing the impact of these workshops and to continuing our support for initiatives that drive STEM education forward.
